YouTube TV Drops Univision Amid Contract Disputes
LOS ANGELES, CA — YouTube TV has removed the Univision network and its other channels from its platform following a failed contract renewal on September 30, 2025. Google, the owner of YouTube, announced that TelevisaUnivision‘s programming would be unavailable after negotiations did not reach an agreement.
In a statement, Google offered a $6 credit or refund to its Spanish Base subscribers if the programming remains offline for an extended period. This move affects a significant portion of the Hispanic audience, as Univision stands as the largest Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States.
“TelevisaUnivision has over 160 million subscribers and billions of views across YouTube, where they generate ad revenue from their content,” a YouTube spokesperson explained. “However, on YouTube TV, TelevisaUnivision only represents a tiny fraction of overall consumption.”
TelevisaUnivision responded critically to YouTube’s decision, calling it an “egregious” act during Hispanic Heritage Month. Their statement highlighted that millions of viewers depend on Univision for Spanish-language news and entertainment. They accused Google of discrimination by relegating their channels to a separately priced package.
“Google has made an unfortunate mistake that is easily reversible,” TelevisaUnivision said, emphasizing that they are open to negotiations to restore access to their content. They also pointed out that YouTube TV’s move places an unfair financial burden on Hispanic households.
The drop of Univision is coupled with ongoing contract negotiations between YouTube TV and NBCUniversal. NBCU’s current agreement is also set to expire on the same date.
If no new agreements are reached, YouTube’s 10 million subscribers could lose access to both Univision and Telemundo channels, which include popular programming like Sunday Night Football and The Voice. A representative for NBCU accused YouTube TV of refusing fair terms while pushing for higher fees.
TelevisaUnivision stated they are committed to advocating for their audience and ensuring that viewers are aware of alternative ways to access their programming through other service providers.
