Zeta Phi Beta Celebrates 105 Years of Excellence and Sisterhood

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Jan. 16, 1920, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded at Howard University, marking the beginning of a legacy built on the pillars of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood. As the organization celebrates its 105th anniversary, it continues to honor its mission of empowering women and making a lasting impact across various fields.

Zeta Phi Beta has produced countless trailblazers in entertainment, politics, and public service. Among its notable members are iconic figures such as Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, and Tatyana Ali, who have left indelible marks on their respective industries.

Tatyana Ali, best known for her role as Ashley Banks on *The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air*, became an honorary member of Zeta Phi Beta in 2023. Ali, a Harvard University graduate, has balanced her acting career with advocacy for underserved communities through her production company, HazraH Entertainment. “Joining Zeta Phi Beta has been a profound honor,” Ali said. “The sorority’s commitment to service and sisterhood aligns with my personal values.”

Chaka Khan, the “Queen of Funk,” joined the sorority as an honorary member in 2020. With a career spanning over five decades, Khan has released numerous hits, including *I’m Every Woman* and *Ain’t Nobody*. Her work with the Black Panther Party’s free breakfast program in her early years reflects her lifelong dedication to community service. “Zeta Phi Beta represents the strength and resilience of Black women,” Khan remarked. “I’m proud to be part of this sisterhood.”

Dawnn Lewis, who co-wrote the theme song for *A Different World* and starred as Jaleesa Vinson, became an honorary member in 2022. Lewis, a University of Miami alumna, has also lent her voice to video games and animated series, showcasing her versatility as an artist. “Zeta Phi Beta’s emphasis on scholarship and creativity resonates deeply with me,” Lewis shared.

Dionne Warwick, one of the most charted vocalists in history, has been a member since 1978. With hits like *Walk on By* and *That’s What Friends Are For*, Warwick has cemented her place in music history. “The sorority’s values of service and excellence have inspired me throughout my career,” Warwick said.

Vivica A. Fox, known for her roles in *Independence Day* and *Kill Bill*, joined Zeta Phi Beta in 2020. Fox, who has starred in over 250 productions, continues to be a prominent figure in Hollywood. “Being part of Zeta Phi Beta is a testament to the power of sisterhood and perseverance,” Fox stated.

As Zeta Phi Beta celebrates its 105th Founders Day, the sorority remains committed to its mission of uplifting communities and fostering excellence among its members.
