Andrey Rublev and Marcos Giron Set for Hamburg Open Showdowns

HAMBURG, Germany — Andrey Rublev is looking to regain his confidence as he prepares to compete in the Hamburg Open in the lead-up to Roland Garros. The Russian will face Damir Dzumhur in the first round on Monday.
This matchup marks the sixth time Rublev and Dzumhur will compete against each other. Rublev holds a strong record against Dzumhur, winning all five of their previous encounters. However, they have only met once since 2018, which was in 2023. Rublev currently boasts an 11-2 record in sets against Dzumhur, with their last meeting resulting in a 7-5, 6-3 victory for Rublev on clay in Banja Luka two years ago.
Although Dzumhur faced challenges on the main tour from 2020 to 2024, he has experienced a resurgence in 2025, accumulating 11 ATP-level match victories. Currently ranked 69th, he achieved a semifinal finish in Bucharest and reached the third round in Madrid during the clay-court swing.
Rublev has struggled lately but has been a formidable player at ATP 500 events throughout his career. As the world No. 17, he recognizes the urgency to secure matches ahead of the Grand Slam and is expected to perform well against Dzumhur.
In another first-round matchup, Marcos Giron will face Roberto Bautista Agut. At 37 years old, Bautista Agut seems to be showing signs of slowing down. He has a challenging task ahead of him against Giron, who has shown better form this season.
Giron has had a successful 2025, with victories in Rome over notable players like Gabriel Diallo and Taylor Fritz. He is currently ranked 45th and has learned to adapt to clay conditions, despite not being at his best on that surface.
In contrast, Bautista Agut’s performance has faltered, holding a 5-12 record this year. After suffering a defeat to Tommy Paul in the second round of Rome, he needs to reclaim his form. With both players’ recent performances, Giron appears to have the upper hand heading into their matchup.
As the matches unfold, spectators will witness whether Rublev can bounce back and if Giron can continue his upward trajectory.
