LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The 2025 Kentucky State Fair kicked off its first weekend with expectations of large crowds and a focus on safety. On Friday, the weather was sunny and warm, and no criminal incidents were reported, a positive sign for fair officials as they reinstated the chaperone policy for attendees under 18.

According to the new guidelines, anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult aged 21 or older after 6 p.m. on weekdays and throughout the day on weekends. Fair officials confirmed that IDs are checked at the entrance to ensure compliance, and there is a limit of six minors per adult chaperone. Larger groups must bring additional adults for supervision.

Lexie Ratterman, a spokesperson for Kentucky Venues, emphasized the importance of these safety measures. ‘In recent years, we’ve invested millions of dollars into a comprehensive security camera system at the facility,’ Ratterman stated. ‘While we have police officers present, our camera system provides additional surveillance across the venue.’

The fair, which runs until Sunday, Aug. 24, features WDRB Day on Friday, Aug. 22. Visitors are reminded that certain items, such as weapons, drones, and lasers, are prohibited from the fairgrounds.
