Daria Kasatkina Katerina Siniakova Korea Open

SEOUL, South Korea — Fourth-seeded Daria Kasatkina will face a formidable opponent in qualifier Katerina Siniakova during the second round of the 2025 Korea Open. Kasatkina advanced with a first-round bye, while Siniakova started her campaign by defeating So-hyun Park in straight sets.

Kasatkina’s season has been a mix of highs and lows. Though she reached the quarterfinals in Adelaide and made it to the fourth round at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros, she has struggled to maintain consistency, often exiting earlier than expected. Her most recent outing ended in disappointment at the US Open, where she was knocked out in the third round by Naomi Osaka.

With a record of 67 aces in 40 matches this year, Kasatkina has won 60.2% of her first serves but converted only 47.9% of break points. In contrast, Siniakova, who has previously claimed ten doubles Grand Slam titles, is eager for a breakthrough in singles. Although her performance has varied, she showcased her potential by winning a WTA 125 title in Warsaw.

Despite inconsistent performances this year, including an early exit at Guadalajara, Siniakova remains a threat. She has tallied 62 aces and won 62.9% of her first serves, but her break points converted stands at 41.9%.

In their previous encounters, Kasatkina leads the head-to-head 6-1. However, most matches have been challenging, with only one of those victories coming in straight sets. The last clash at Roland Garros saw Kasatkina triumph again, which indicates her dominance in recent matchups.

Both players bring unique strengths to the court, but Kasatkina’s defensive skills give her an advantage. Nevertheless, Siniakova’s versatility means the match could be closely contested.

The tournament remains poised for additional surprises as betting odds favor Kasatkina’s advancement to the next round, but Siniakova’s odds suggest she could pull off an upset.
