Halsey Unable to Release New Album Due to Label’s Disappointment
LOS ANGELES, CA — Pop star Halsey has revealed that she cannot release another album due to her label’s dissatisfaction with the performance of her latest project, The Great Impersonator. During an interview with Zane Lowe, Halsey discussed the commercial expectations set by her label.
She explained, “I can’t make an album right now, I’m not allowed to. The Great Impersonator didn’t perform the way they thought it was going to.” Despite selling 100,000 copies in its first week, Halsey noted that her label expected numbers akin to those of her hit 2020 album, Manic.
“That’s a pretty big first week,” she said, emphasizing the challenges of meeting high expectations in today’s music industry dominated by streaming services. She pointed out that her recent tour was the highest-grossing of her career, indicating a strong fanbase. However, the success was still considered inadequate by her team.
“They want Manic numbers from me,” Halsey remarked. “I can’t do that every single time. It should be good enough that I do it once in a while. But it’s not.” Her comments highlight the intense pressure artists face, where even significant achievements can be perceived as failures against past successes.
This situation for Halsey reflects broader challenges in the industry regarding the sustainability of creative output while meeting commercial demands.
