Braves Sweep Nationals with 9-4 Victory in Washington
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Atlanta Braves completed a four-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a convincing 9-4 victory on Wednesday night at Nationals Park.
Marcell Ozuna played a key role for the Braves, driving in three runs and hitting a solo home run. His single in the sixth inning tied the game at 3-3, and his double in the eighth put the Braves ahead 6-3. Matt Olson also contributed with his 28th home run of the season in the fifth inning.
Braves starter Hurston Waldrep improved to 5-1 after striking out eight and shutting down the first 13 Nationals hitters in five innings. Despite allowing three runs in the fifth, his strong performance was pivotal for Atlanta.
The Braves were initially trailing 3-0 before staging a comeback. Ronald Acuña Jr. started the Braves’ scoring with an RBI double in the sixth. A single from Ozzie Albies during a three-run ninth highlighted the Braves’ late-game execution.
Washington’s offense, while showing flashes of promise, could not maintain consistency. Dylan Crews and James Wood each had multi-hit games, accounting for three of the Nationals’ runs.
Nationals’ pitcher Clayton Beeter took the loss, allowing two earned runs in just two-thirds of an inning. His record now stands at 0-3.
A key moment in the game occurred when Ozuna was tagged out sliding into third base on Alvarez’s RBI single, shortly after Kim touched home plate. The Braves unsuccessfully challenged the call, adding drama to the contest.
Olson’s home run marked his fifth in the last six games, showcasing his current form as he has accumulated 11 RBIs during that stretch.
Looking ahead, the Braves will take a day off before playing the Detroit Tigers, while the Nationals will travel to New York to face the Mets.
