Nick Saban Weighs in on Sherrone Moore’s Suspension Impact

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore is serving the second game of a two-game suspension this Saturday against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, a consequence of his involvement in the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal. Moore’s absence has drawn commentary from Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who spoke on ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ about how this could affect the Wolverines.
Saban noted that Moore’s recent engagement in practice could provide a temporary advantage. He stated, ‘The biggest impact, first of all, is that he was able to be at practice this week.’ Saban highlighted the importance of being present to identify issues following last weekend’s disappointing loss and to teach players effectively.
Biff Poggi, Michigan’s associate head coach, will handle the team’s sideline duties during Moore’s suspension. Under Poggi’s guidance, the Wolverines achieved a dominant 63-3 victory over Central Michigan last week. Saban emphasized the challenge Poggi faces in managing both offensive and defensive coordinators while ensuring team focus.
Moore’s suspension is a result of his failure to disclose deleted text messages related to the investigation, which included 52 messages with Stalions. He explained that these deletions were an emotional reaction to the allegations.
Moore expressed confidence that his team would maintain momentum despite his absence, having prepared them well leading up to the game. ‘Biff has been in the program before,’ Moore shared, acknowledging Poggi’s familiarity with the players and coaching staff.
Michigan, currently ranked No. 20, enters the matchup against Nebraska with a 1-1 record. Following this weekend’s game, Moore will return for Michigan’s Week 6 contest against Wisconsin after a bye week.
