Macklin Celebrini And Will Smith Hockey Practice

San Jose, California — San Jose Sharks forwards Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith spent an additional 45 minutes on the ice following practice on Thursday, showcasing their determination to improve.

Head Coach Scott Warsofsky noted the intensity of the practice, which included special teams work and skating drills. The Sharks faced a tough workout, especially for those who lost a center-ice game, resulting in extra skating. Celebrini and Smith, part of the losing group, opted to remain on the ice.

“Those guys really drive the bus,” Warsofsky said. “They want to be on the ice as much as possible to get better. We have a driven group, and it’s exciting to see that evolve.”

Adam Gaudette was initially part of the extra ice time but left early, leaving Celebrini, Smith, and skills coach Mike Ricci to focus on their one-timers. “We like staying out to work on little shooting drills,” Smith said.

During a power-play drill, both players aimed to optimize their positioning. “You don’t want to be too static on a power play,” Smith explained. “It’s about moving around and filling different spots.”

Meanwhile, top defense prospect Sam Dickinson has been integrated into the top power play unit, although he has missed two days of practice due to an upper-body injury. Smith commented on Dickinson’s unique left-handed play style compared to right-handed players like John Klingberg: “It’s a different perspective that we need to adapt to during camp.”

The Sharks are preparing for their second preseason game at SAP Center on Friday, where puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT. Smith expressed that the team is eager to improve after last season. “The key is to come together during preseason to start well, taking it day by day,” he stated.

With players like Celebrini and Smith leading the way, the Sharks hope to turn the tide on their recent performance and build a successful season ahead.
