DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The fifth week of the Iowa high school football season wrapped up with several thrilling matchups across the state. Highlights and final scores from the weekend reflect a competitive spirit from players and teams alike.

Dowling Catholic dominated Waterloo West, finishing the game with a score of 55-7. Southeast Polk showcased their strength by defeating Ottumwa 70-6, while Dallas Center-Grimes narrowly edged Waukee with a final score of 29-28.

In a closely contested game, Ankeny managed to secure a win over Sioux City East with a score of 26-20. West Des Moines Valley also maintained their strong performance, shutting out Indianola 24-0. Notably, Nevada triumphed over Winterset with a close score of 34-25.

Ankeny Centennial didn’t hold back either, dominating Urbandale 42-0, and Des Moines Roosevelt defeated Ames 20-14 in a competitive matchup where Roosevelt rallied after a tie game.

In a thrilling wild card match, Interstate 35 defeated Panorama 53-25, a game that included standout performances from several players. Jace Maxwell scored on two separate touchdowns and led the Roadrunners to a decisive victory.

Further down the line, Clarinda’s team won against Van Meter with a narrow score of 17-14, while Norwalk celebrated a 40-19 victory over Iowa City High. These games contributed to an exciting week as teams push toward the playoffs.

The night closed with several homecoming celebrations across various schools, adding a festive atmosphere to the competitive spirit of high school football.
