Jake LaRavia Aims to Shine in Lakers Media Day Debut
Los Angeles, California — At the Los Angeles Lakers media day on October 1, 2025, forward Jake LaRavia expressed his excitement about his new role with the team. LaRavia, who is entering his first full season with the Lakers, aims to support the team’s veteran stars while making a significant impact on the court.
During his media conference, Lakers superstar LeBron James emphasized LaRavia’s importance to the team’s dynamics. When asked about the Lakers’ roster enhancements, James mentioned LaRavia’s name with enthusiasm, highlighting the 6-foot-7 forward’s height and versatility.
“We’ve got a lot of players on this team who can score, so I’m here to complement those players and bring energy every day,” LaRavia said during training camp. The 23-year-old, who was the 19th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has a career three-point shooting percentage of 42.9% and averaged 6.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game during his time with the Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings.
LaRavia was eager to prove himself after being traded to the Kings last season, where his team option wasn’t picked up. The Lakers reached out quickly, needing three-and-D players to bolster their roster. “It’s an incredible opportunity for myself and our player development department to help him grow,” said Coach Darvin Ham. “Jake is committed to making the most of this opportunity.”
In training camp, LaRavia has been tasked with guarding multiple positions, often practicing alongside star Luka Doncic. He noted how playing with someone of Doncic’s caliber helps him understand spacing on the court. “It’s gonna make my life so much easier playing with someone like that,” he said.
Originally from Pasadena, California, LaRavia grew up a Lakers fan, inspired by legendary player Magic Johnson. Now a member of the organization, he appreciates the global reach of the Lakers brand, which he has noticed differs from his previous experiences.
With the spotlight on him, LaRavia aims to keep a low profile, especially after recently getting married. “I want to be recognized only for my wins on the court,” he commented.
As the Lakers prepare for their first preseason game against the Phoenix Suns, other players have faced setbacks. James missed practice again but is still participating in individual drills. Veteran guard Marcus Smart is recovering from an Achilles issue, while rookie Adou Thiero continues to recuperate from a knee concern. Forward Maxi Kleber, who previously missed most of last season with a foot injury, is also undergoing caution with a recent quad tweak.
LaRavia’s journey is just beginning, and the Lakers are optimistic about his potential as they strive for another championship run this season.
