Pima County Opens Sandbag Stations Ahead of Weekend Rain

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Pima County has opened sandbag stations across the region to prepare residents for possible heavy rainfall this weekend. The National Weather Service predicts significant rain from Friday through at least Tuesday, with several inches expected, raising concerns about potential flooding in southern Arizona.
Starting October 10, sandbags will be available at various locations, including Hi Corbett Field at 700 S. Randolph Way in Tucson. Each vehicle can pick up up to 20 sandbags, and residents are encouraged to bring their own shovels and gloves to assist in filling the bags.
In addition to Hi Corbett Field, sandbag locations include Arivaca, Mount Lemmon, Catalina/Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and Vail. Residents can find specific addresses at Pima County’s official website. These efforts come as Tropical Storm Priscilla’s remnants may impact the area, prompting the need for precautionary measures.
City officials emphasize the importance of being prepared and staying informed. Residents can check the latest forecasts and sign up for emergency alerts for potential weather updates.
The measures aim to protect the community and mitigate risks associated with severe weather conditions. For further information, residents can contact the Pima County emergency management office.
