Jasmine Crockett Apology Controversy

NEW YORK, NY — ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith has issued an apology to Democratic lawmaker Jasmine Crockett, backtracking on his previous criticism of her after facing backlash.

Earlier this month, Smith questioned Crockett’s approach to politics, claiming she focused more on attacking former President Donald Trump than on supporting her constituents. On his podcast, “Straight Shooter,” Smith asked, “Is that going to help your district in Texas?”

Despite backlash, Smith initially doubled down on his comments. He stated, “I have nothing but respect for her. I just disagree on what she’s making headlines for because I think it’s counterproductive to the ultimate goal.”

On Wednesday, Smith reversed his stance. He acknowledged that his remarks may have fueled Trump’s criticisms of Crockett, who was recently labeled a “very low IQ person” by Trump in an interview.

“I get it now with Trump feeding into that nonsense,” Smith stated in his latest podcast. “I don’t like that at all. … I apologize because I respect the hell out of Jasmine Crockett and what she has accomplished.”

Smith continued, “I can look Jasmine Crockett in the face and say, ‘I’m sorry for any kind of noise I caused in your direction.’ She is accomplished and smart and has an incredible challenge working in this political climate.”
