No. 7 Georgia Tech Faces Syracuse With Key Injuries
ATLANTA, Georgia — No. 7 Georgia Tech will play without three starters this Saturday against Syracuse due to injuries sustained in last week’s victory over Duke.
The ACC availability report ruled out a wide receiver, a center, and a nickelback, presenting challenges for a team that is now 7-0 for the first time since 1966. The Yellow Jackets are also aiming for their best start in conference play at 5-0.
Their upcoming opponent, Syracuse, comes into the game with a 3-4 record and has lost three straight matches. The Orange have struggled since starting quarterback Steve Angeli suffered a season-ending injury, forcing Rickie Collins to take over. Collins has yet to win as a starter, posting three losses by double digits.
Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key expressed respect for Syracuse despite their record. “You can’t look at a record to say anything about the team. They’ve had some misfortune with injuries on both sides of the football,” Key said in a press conference. “Just turn on the tape. Watch them play; they play hard and have good players.”
The Yellow Jackets are coming off a narrow 27-18 win over Duke, where they relied on a defensive touchdown that shifted momentum. Haynes King, Georgia Tech’s senior quarterback, has been a key player, boasting ten rushing touchdowns this season.
Syracuse’s challenge against Georgia Tech lies in overcoming its recent performance issues while limiting turnovers and executing on special teams. The Orange defense will need to focus on stopping the run, particularly against a potent Georgia Tech ground attack.
As focus shifts to Saturday’s matchup, Key emphasized, “No team is upset proof in college football. The Orange have our full attention.”
