Seattle Police Investigate Fatal Incident Near Convention Center
SEATTLE — Police are investigating the death of a 44-year-old man found near Freeway Park on Saturday evening. The Seattle Police Department received reports just after 6:20 p.m. of a man down and bleeding near Union Street and Convention Place.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the man with obvious head trauma. They immediately began CPR until Seattle Fire Department paramedics arrived to continue medical efforts. Tragically, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dayton Smith, a local resident, expressed his concern about the area, stating he had been warned about safety issues in Freeway Park at night. “I’ve walked through that park a couple of times, during the daytime, beautiful park, but from what I’ve been told, a bit sketchy at night,” Smith said.
The Seattle Police have deployed homicide detectives and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit to gather evidence from the scene. The body of the deceased will be transferred to the King County Medical Examiner, who will work to identify him and determine the cause of death.
