Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation on Friday, describing the current situation as one of the most challenging moments in the country’s history. He reacted to a U.S. proposal suggesting Ukraine should cede territory, limit its military, and avoid NATO membership in exchange for ending the ongoing conflict with Russia.

In his daily video address, Zelensky said, “The pressure on Ukraine is now at its most intense. We may face a very difficult choice: either the loss of dignity or the risk of losing a key partner, or an extremely harsh winter.” He referenced the proposal put forth by U.S. President Donald Trump, describing it as having 28 difficult points that might jeopardize Ukraine’s sovereignty.

“The most difficult and further risks are life without freedom, without dignity, and believing someone who has already attacked us twice,” he added. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine would work quickly but calmly with the U.S. and other partners to pursue a resolution.

Following the announcement of the U.S. proposal, several European leaders expressed support for Ukraine, insisting that decisions about the country’s future must include its input. Zelensky noted, “I will present arguments, I will persuade, but we will not give the enemy any reason to say that Ukraine does not want peace.”

As the political landscape continues to shift, Zelensky has been in discussion with various European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to coordinate Ukraine’s response to the proposal. He affirmed, “We are working on a document prepared by the American side that ensures a real and dignified peace.”

In recent developments, Russian forces continue to launch attacks on Ukrainian territories. A missile strike this week resulted in 31 deaths, including 18 children, highlighting the brutal impact of the conflict as Ukraine stands firm against external threats.

While addressing the pressure from the U.S. and the battlefield challenges, Zelensky vowed, “We will not betray Ukraine. Our national interests will be considered.” He remarked that the next week could be particularly difficult for the nation, reiterating the need for unity and resilience as discussions on the U.S. proposal continue.
