Adam Pearson, the British actor known for his roles in films like Under the Skin and A Different Man, has become a prominent advocate for raising awareness about neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), a genetic condition he has lived with since childhood. Pearson, who recently starred alongside Sebastian Stan in A Different Man, has used his platform to shed light on the challenges and misconceptions surrounding the disorder.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 is a condition that causes non-cancerous tumors to grow on nerve endings, often leading to visible bumps under the skin. Pearson was diagnosed at the age of five after a head injury revealed the condition. Over time, the tumors spread across his face, affecting his vision, particularly in his right eye. Pearson’s brother, Neil Pearson, also lives with NF1, though his symptoms manifest differently. Neil experiences epilepsy and short-term memory loss, which he manages by writing detailed lists. Adam has often spoken about the bond he shares with his brother, emphasizing the importance of family support. “He’s an extremely confident person, whereas I took a step back,” Neil said in an interview with The Atlantic. “I didn’t want to make things worse for him.”
