Medellín, Colombia – Alberto Gamero will return to the Atanasio Girardot Stadium as the head coach of Deportivo Cali on October 14, 2025, for a match against Atlético Nacional during the 15th round of the league.

This visit is especially significant for Gamero, who has celebrated many memorable moments at this venue, particularly in contests against Nacional. He built a reputation as a competitive coach known for delivering impressive results.

Gamero’s journey began in 2011 with Boyacá Chicó, where he led his team to eliminate Nacional in a narrow semifinal series during the Copa Colombia. This marked the beginning of his legacy at the Atanasio.

While coaching Deportes Tolima, Gamero transformed the Atanasio into a battlefield for victories. In 2014, he managed a 2-2 draw in Medellín and a 2-0 win in Ibagué to advance in the Copa. He repeated this success in 2017 during the league matches, securing a crucial win at home and qualifying through penalties after a hard-fought contest.

His most celebrated moment came during the first-semester final in 2018. Despite losing the first leg to Nacional, a dramatic goal by Danovis Banguero in injury time secured the title for Gamero’s team, highlighting his capacity to defy the odds.

Gamero later faced Nacional again in the Copa Colombia, where Tolima triumphed 2-1 on aggregate in the quarterfinals. In the first-semester final of 2023, after a goalless first leg, his team clinched the title through penalties with standout performances from goalkeeper Álvaro Montero.

Months later, Nacional avenged their previous losses by lifting the BetPlay Cup trophy at the Atanasio, but Gamero’s side did not lose the match in Medellín.

Now, more than a decade after his first significant victory with Chicó, Gamero returns to the Atanasio, eager to lead Deportivo Cali back to success and rekindle the memories of his triumphs at the stadium.
