Alligator Causes Delay at Zurich Classic Golf Tournament

During the opening round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana, a unique delay occurred on the par-3 17th hole as an alligator made an unexpected appearance, causing a temporary pause in play. The players involved in the delay were Paul Barjon, Sam Stevens, Jhonattan Vegas, and Bronson Burgoon.

Stevens, who was preparing for his tee shot at the 17th hole, had to wait patiently as the alligator crossed just a few feet away from the tee box. The unusual interruption lasted approximately seven minutes, adding an unexpected twist to the tournament proceedings.

The group, comprising Barjon/Stevens and Vegas/Burgoon, had their rhythm disrupted briefly as they awaited the alligator’s leisurely stroll past the tee box. Despite the delay, both pairs managed to refocus and finish their rounds strongly.

Barjon and Stevens concluded their round with a solid performance, carding a 9-under 63, placing them just two strokes behind the early leaders. On the other hand, Vegas and Burgoon finished with a 7-under 65, showcasing their ability to handle unforeseen obstacles on the course.

Alligators have become a familiar sight at the Zurich Classic, with stories of these reptiles roaming the TPC Louisiana grounds being part of the tournament’s lore. Notably, a famous resident gator known as Tripod, with three legs, has been a long-standing feature at the course, contributing to the event’s unique charm.

The recent alligator sighting, although not Tripod, highlights the close interaction between nature and golf at TPC Louisiana. Spectators and players alike can always expect some wildlife encounters amidst the competitive golf action at this renowned tournament venue.
