Amanda Holden Braves Torrential Downpour in Charity Cycling Challenge
Amanda Holden, the celebrated radio host known for her work on Heart Breakfast, is currently undertaking a formidable cycling challenge amid fierce weather conditions. The 53-year-old commenced her journey from her mother’s home in Bude on Monday, October 7, 2024. Her trek, extending over 250 miles, aims to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise charity, which supports various small charities across the UK.
On the second day of her ride, Holden confronted heavy downpours and a looming thunderstorm warning as she traveled from Taunton to Frome. Despite the harsh “biblical” weather, Holden’s spirits remained high. In a voice note sent to the show, she humorously recounted her breakfast at Kitchen at the Wharf in Langport and described herself as “soaked to the skin.” Holding a positive outlook, she credited the generous support from donors for keeping her motivated.
Significant contributions have bolstered the fundraising efforts, including a substantial £100,000 donation from The Wild Robot, much to the delight of Holden and her supporters. “The weather is biblical. It’s coming down in stair rods,” Holden shared while expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support.
This challenging journey will see Holden pedal through scenic counties including Somerset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, and Surrey, before reaching Heart HQ in London's Leicester Square by Friday, October 11. The event coincides with Global’s Make Some Noise Day, which focuses on aiding life-enhancing projects run by small charities tackling mental health, poverty, and homelessness.
Jason King, filling in for Jamie Theakston at the Heart studio, emphasized the importance of the cause, stating, “Amanda is taking on a massive challenge this year, raising money for the fantastic projects supported by Global’s Make Some Noise.” The fundraising campaign has already garnered significant attention and support, vital for assisting communities across the UK confronting issues such as life-limiting illnesses and homelessness.
Holden, no stranger to physically demanding initiatives, previously completed the Three Peaks Challenge, a skydive from 10,000 feet, and an ascent of Blackpool Tower. Her current endeavor not only tests her endurance but also highlights the responsiveness and generosity of Heart listeners.
Her arrival in Newbury on October 8, 2024, marks the third leg of her journey; locals are encouraged to come out and support her at the Teashop by the Canal at around 5 pm. Contributions to Global’s Make Some Noise can be made at heart.co.uk, as the campaign continues to make a difference in communities nationwide.
