Amid Rajya Sabha Elections, Cross-voting Concerns Arise in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka
As the Rajya Sabha elections take place in India, concerns over possible cross-voting have arisen in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. The ongoing elections are crucial for deciding the representatives in the upper house of the Parliament.
In Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed disappointment as eight of the party’s MLAs were absent from a crucial meeting before the elections. This absence has fueled speculation of potential cross-voting within the party ranks.
Meanwhile, in Karnataka, prominent political figures like Chief Minister Siddaramaiah cast his vote for the Rajya Sabha polls. The Congress, BJP, and JD(S) have all been actively participating in the election process.
In Karnataka, state legislators have convened at Vidhana Soudha to exercise their voting rights. The open ballot system is in place, with MLAs disclosing their voting preferences to the designated polling agents.
The Congress camp in Karnataka holds a strong majority with 133 MLAs, while the BJP and JD(S) have 66 and 19 legislators respectively in the 223-member House. This political landscape sets the stage for a dynamic and competitive electoral process.
