Amtrak Urges Early Thanksgiving Travel Bookings Amid Record Demand
WASHINGTON, Oct. 31, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Amtrak is urging travelers to reserve their tickets now for Thanksgiving, which is just weeks away. With last year seeing over 1.2 million passengers, Amtrak expects 2025 to set new records in both revenue and ridership during this busy holiday season.
The company reported double-digit growth in early bookings compared to last year, indicating a surge in demand as travelers plan their trips earlier. Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Eliot Hamlisch emphasized the comfort and convenience of train travel: “Amtrak offers a comfortable, convenient alternative to congested highways and crowded airports all year round – especially during the busy holiday season.”
To meet the increased demand, Amtrak will add extra train cars on Northeast Regional routes from November 25-30, serving popular destinations such as Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston. Travelers can enjoy wide reclining seats, ample legroom, and the ability to move around the train during their journey.
This year, Amtrak also introduces its new premium NextGen Acela trains, which provide First Class and Business Class options for passengers traveling between major cities along the Northeast Corridor. These trains feature innovative amenities aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.
Amtrak tickets can be purchased easily through various channels, including the Amtrak mobile app, at in-station ticketing kiosks, and by calling 800-USA-RAIL. Tickets for the new NextGen Acela trains are identifiable by a unique tag on the app.
With travel projections showing more than 55 million Americans planning to travel this Thanksgiving, according to the American Automobile Association, the surge in train bookings reflects a broader trend towards train travel in the U.S. Amtrak encourages travelers to check schedules and arrive early for boarding, while flexible fare options remain available for those who are unsure about their return dates.
