Apple’s iPhone 16 Series to Feature Ultra-Thin Bezel Technology, Report Claims
Apple is set to introduce a new ultra-thin bezel technology on its upcoming iPhone 16 series, according to a recent report originating from Korea.
The report suggests that Apple will leverage the Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology to minimize the bezel at the bottom of the devices’ displays. BRS achieves this by compactly rolling up the internal copper wiring in a refined manner.
All four models in the iPhone 16 lineup are said to benefit from this borderless display technology, slated for release in the latter half of this year.
Despite previous setbacks due to heat issues, Apple is reportedly doubling down on adopting BRS technology, buoyed by recent enhancements in heat dissipation techniques.
Previous iterations of iPhone models have employed different methods to reduce bezel size. For instance, the iPhone 15 Pro models used low-injection pressure over-molding (LIPO) to shrink the display border size to a mere 1.5 millimeters, far less than the iPhone 14 models’ approximately 2.2 millimeters.
Aside from the display technology enhancement, Apple is also gearing up to increase the display sizes on its iPhone 16 Pro models compared to the existing iPhone 15 Pro lineup.
Reportedly, the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a 6.27-inch display, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max sporting a larger 6.85-inch screen. The devices are likely to be marketed as having 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively.
The larger display sizes will necessitate a slight increase in the dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro models, making them taller and slightly wider than their predecessors. This expanded form factor is expected to allow for more internal space for accommodating components like potentially larger and longer-lasting batteries.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models, however, are not expected to undergo size changes and will retain the same dimensions as the current iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models. Looking ahead to the 2025 lineup, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus are speculated to mirror the larger display sizes introduced with the Pro models this year.
