Apple’s “Wolfs” Debuts on Apple TV+: A Star-Studded Crime Thriller
The much-anticipated Apple TV+ film “Wolfs,” starring renowned Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and George Clooney, premiered today on the streaming platform. Initially planned for a broader theatrical release, the movie made its exclusive debut on Apple TV+ following a limited showing in select theaters last week.
“Wolfs” is directed by Jon Watts, acclaimed for his work on the popular “Spider-Man” trilogy. The film chronicles the story of two professional fixers, portrayed by Pitt and Clooney, who find themselves collaborating to conceal a high-profile crime. The cast is further bolstered by performances from Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Richard Kind.
Despite receiving favorable reviews from critics, Apple unexpectedly shifted “Wolfs” from its originally intended wide theatrical release. While Apple has not provided an official explanation, industry sources suggest that the decision may be attributed to the modest box office returns of some of its recent film releases.
This pivot indicates a broader reassessment of Apple’s strategy concerning theatrical releases. Another film, “Blitz,” is scheduled for a limited theatrical release before heading to streaming. Currently, “F1,” an upcoming Formula One drama also featuring Brad Pitt, remains the only Apple film slated for a wide theatrical release, set to debut in June 2025.
Despite the strategic shift, Apple continues to invest in high-profile cinematic projects. Matt Dentler, head of features at Apple Original Films, described “Wolfs” as a “big event movie” and disclosed that a sequel is already in the works. The film is a product of Clooney’s Smokehouse Pictures and Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, in collaboration with Apple.
“Wolfs” is available for viewing by all Apple TV+ subscribers, marking another ambitious endeavor in Apple’s foray into high-stakes cinematic productions.
