Timothy Cardinal Dolan Discussing Charlie Kirk

NEW YORK, NY — Archbishop of New York Timothy Cardinal Dolan spoke on Fox & Friends Friday about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Dolan described Kirk as a “modern-day St. Paul,” highlighting his impact on youth interest in Christianity. “He was a missionary, he’s an evangelist, he’s a hero,” Dolan said, emphasizing Kirk’s respect for differing views despite his blunt communication style. “It’s effective to do it with respect,” he added.

The cardinal believes Kirk’s death may lead to a spiritual awakening among young people, reflecting a growing trend of reconnecting with faith. “What they’re seeing is a revival of value and truth,” Dolan stated. He expressed hope that this unfortunate event would inspire younger generations to embrace their Christian roots.

Kirk, who leaves behind his wife and two children, often focused on traditional values tied to American family life. Dolan remarked that many young individuals who have drifted away from God are recognizing a void in their lives. “It’s not something missing; it’s someone missing,” he quoted St. Augustine.

In addressing the public response to Kirk’s assassination, the cardinal condemned the evils of violence. He urged that personal attacks weaken arguments, reinforcing the importance of discussions centered on principles rather than individuals. “The compelling nature of rational arguments has faded,” Dolan noted, suggesting that attacks on character indicate a loss in substantive debate.

A public memorial for Charlie Kirk is set to take place at the Arizona Cardinals’ stadium on Sunday, where thousands are expected to pay their respects.
