Arizona State Football Prepares for Key Matchup Against Texas State

TEMPE, Arizona – Arizona State University’s football team looks to bounce back this Saturday against Texas State at Mountain America Stadium. After a 1-1 start to the 2025 season, the Sun Devils are eager to capitalize on home-field advantage for what could boost their recruiting presence in Texas.
The Sun Devils are working to fill the void left by Cam Skattebo, who was drafted by the New York Giants in April. With questions lingering about who will lead in the backfield, Raleek Brown, who is returning from an injury, and Kyson Brown, last season’s backup, are stepping up.
In their first two games this season, Brown has shown promise. He had 145 total yards in a season-opening win over Northern Arizona but faces uncertainty after suffering an ankle injury against Mississippi State. ASU coach Kenny Dillingham stated in a Monday press conference that Brown is unlikely to play on Saturday. “His leadership in the running back room is important, regardless of his status,” coach Dillingham said.
Meanwhile, Raleek Brown leads with 148 rushing yards this season, averaging 6.4 yards per carry. He aims to maintain the team’s momentum. “Our identity is to just keep running hard and then playing fast,” he said, emphasizing the need for a strong work ethic in the backfield.
Transfer Kanye Udoh has also emerged, making a significant impact in the game against Mississippi State with 105 rushing yards and a touchdown, highlighting the effectiveness of the team’s run game. “We’re doing good, but there’s still things we need to work on,” he remarked, confident about maximizing his role.
In the previous matchup with Texas State, ASU secured a narrow 31-28 victory, which has led to increased interest in Arizona football from Texas recruits. Dillingham has focused on expanding the program’s reach in Texas, now boasting 27 players from the state on the roster.
Jimento Obigbo, a left guard who transferred from Texas State, spoke about the importance of this weekend’s game. “It’s a crucial game for us to build on our status in Texas,” said Obigbo. “Competing against Texas teams gives us a chance to showcase our skills.”
The matchup will kick off at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday as the Sun Devils aim to improve their record and strengthen their foothold in a state rich with football talent.
