Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese Engaged To Partner Jodie Haydon: A Historic Move In Office

Australia‘s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has made history by announcing his engagement to his partner, Jodie Haydon. The announcement, shared on social media the morning after Valentine’s Day, marks a significant moment in Australian politics.

Albanese and Haydon, who met at a business dinner in Melbourne in 2020, showcased their joy with a photo revealing the engagement ring. The Australian PM captioned the image with the exciting news, ‘She said yes.’

If the marriage occurs while in office, it will be a first for an Australian Prime Minister. The Foreign Affairs Minister, Penny Wong, a long-time ally of Albanese, was among the first to offer congratulations on social media, emphasizing the beauty of love.

Colleagues from the Labor party, including Clare O'Neil and Julie Collins, also expressed warm wishes for the engaged couple. Haydon, who serves as the women’s officer for the NSW Public Service Association and resides with Albanese at the Lodge in Canberra, has accompanied the Prime Minister on various state visits.

During a state dinner at the White House with US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, Albanese’s affection for Haydon was evident. Reflecting on the evening, Albanese humorously remarked that all future date nights might pale in comparison to the grand event.

Prior to his engagement to Jodie Haydon, Anthony Albanese was married to Carmel Tebbutt, a former NSW deputy premier, with whom he shares a 23-year-old son named Nathan. This new chapter in Albanese’s personal life adds a unique dimension to his political career.
