Triumph Speed T4 India Launch

On September 17, 2024, Bajaj Auto launched two new motorcycle models, the Triumph Speed T4 and the MY25 Speed 400. This move is part of the ongoing collaboration between Bajaj Auto and Triumph, aiming to capture the expanding market for modern classic roadsters in India. Deliveries for both models are scheduled to begin later this month.

The Triumph Speed T4 is set at an ex-showroom price of ₹2.17 lakh in Delhi, marking it as the most affordable Triumph motorcycle available in the country. The name ‘T4’ derives from ‘torque’ and its 400cc engine. The manufacturer claims the Speed T4 is 10% more fuel-efficient compared to its counterpart, the Speed 400.

The Speed T4 features a claimed top speed of 135 km/h and can achieve 100 km/h at 5,450 rpm. To keep costs down, Triumph has opted for conventional telescopic front forks rather than the upside-down forks found on the Speed 400. The bike’s engine is a 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder unit, offering 30.6 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 36 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. Importantly, 85% of the torque is accessible at just 2,500 rpm. Equipped with a 6-speed gearbox, the Speed T4 also includes a slip-and-assist clutch.

The new model is equipped with an all-LED lighting system, an analogue-digital display, Bluetooth connectivity, and traction control. It comes in three colour options: white, red, and black. The Speed T4 rides on 17-inch wheels, utilizing either Apollo Alpha H1 or MRF Steel Brace tyres, depending on the production batch.

Sumeet Narang, President of Bajaj Auto’s Probiking Business, commented on the growing success of the Triumph partnership in India. He noted that “Triumph Motorcycles India has over 120 showrooms across 75 cities, achieved just in one year of partnership with Bajaj Auto,” highlighting the increasing demand for modern classic motorcycles.

Additionally, Bajaj Auto also introduced the MY25 Speed 400, priced at ₹2.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This updated model boasts new paint schemes and design enhancements. It features high-profile radial tyres, a chassis that remains unchanged, yet provides a fresh appearance with minor refinements.

Narang emphasized that Bajaj Auto is the “ideal partner” for Triumph in expanding its reach within India’s premium motorcycle market, which is experiencing substantial growth. The Triumph Speed T4 aims to compete in the roadster sector against the Jawa 42 FJ, Royal Enfield Hunter 350, and Hero Mavrick 440.
