Bears Coach Eyes Quarterback Changes After Williams’ Struggles

CHICAGO, IL — Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams faced criticism for his performance during Monday night’s game. Although his statistics were decent, fans and analysts noted inaccuracies in his passing and a tendency to seek risky plays over safer completions.
Head coach Ben Johnson appeared frustrated with Williams, raising questions about the quarterback’s future as the starting player. After the game, discussions arose about whether backup Tyson Bagent might be considered for the starting position. However, those notions were quickly set aside.
“Williams is incredibly talented. To abandon him after just one game would be foolish,” said a league analyst. The Bears are set on supporting their young quarterback for the time being. Yet, concerns linger about his consistency in reading defenses.
Former NFL quarterback Tim Jenkins weighed in on the situation, sharing observations on Bagent’s capabilities. Jenkins noted, “Bagent is a pocket passer who diagnoses defenses expertly. His accuracy and timing are strong, though he lacks the arm strength Williams possesses.”
The underlying issue for Williams could be processing information during plays, a skill that’s critical for NFL quarterbacks. Johnson previously worked with Jared Goff, who thrived under his guidance. As the team evaluates their options moving forward, the coming weeks will be pivotal for Williams’ progress.
“If he continues to struggle, Johnson may eventually turn to Bagent,” Jenkins warned. The next four to five games will be crucial in determining the direction of the Bears’ quarterback situation.
