LOS ANGELES, CA – Fans of the action thriller The Beekeeper can rejoice as production for the sequel, The Beekeeper 2, is in pre-production and set to bring back popular actor Jason Statham.

Statham, who plays the role of Adam Clay, a former intelligence agent turned beekeeper, garnered praise for his performance in the first film. The Beekeeper made a significant impact at the box office, grossing over $152 million worldwide, proving to be a commercial success against its $40 million budget.

Director David Ayer, who helmed the original, is not back in the director’s chair for the sequel but may remain involved in a producing capacity. “We want to explore more about Adam Clay and the Beekeepers,” Ayer said previously. His comments suggest the sequel promises to dive deeper into the mythos established in the first film.

The new director, Timo Tjahjanto, is recognized for his action-packed films and is expected to lead The Beekeeper 2 in a thrilling direction. Tjahjanto’s recent success with the movie Nobody 2 indicates he has the skills to create an enthralling sequel.

Joining Statham in The Beekeeper 2 is Jeremy Irons, who reprises his role as Wallace Westwyld, a former CIA director. Irons’ character will reportedly have a much larger presence in the sequel, stepping fully into the villain role, which could add layers of complexity to the storyline.

While many details surrounding The Beekeeper 2 remain under wraps, fans can anticipate an exploration of Clay’s journey and the secrets of the shadowy organization he is entwined with. With pre-production underway, further updates are expected in the coming months.
