William Mullins Mcleod Arrest Police Footage

Charleston, South Carolina – Police bodycam footage released this week shows William “Mullins” McLeod, a Democratic candidate for governor, engaging in a profanity-laced tirade while detained in a patrol car after his May arrest.

The incident occurred on May 14, when McLeod was arrested by the Charleston Police Department and charged with disorderly conduct. At the time of the arrest, McLeod was reportedly semi-naked, wearing only underwear and shoes, and was sweating profusely.

In the footage, which spans approximately 35 minutes, McLeod can be heard referring to himself as “Superman” and “God,” while making threats against various public officials. Early in the recording, he begins discussing class-action lawsuits and expresses frustration over the distribution of victim compensation.

When an officer asks for his name, McLeod responds, “Just get these shackles off of me,” before stating, “I tell you what, Superman sounds good. I’m Superman.” The officer suggested the name John Doe, to which McLeod agreed, adding, “I don’t care what you call me, call me God. You think I give a f—?”

McLeod threatened several South Carolina politicians during the rant, including Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson. He shouted threats while claiming the political system was corrupt. Incidents of erratic behavior, including excessive yelling and the use of racial slurs, were also captured on tape.

Officers had initially encountered McLeod while he was walking along a seawall and disturbing the peace. According to police reports, his behavior led them to order him to place his hands behind his back before he started resisting arrest.

Following the arrest, McLeod’s attorney suggested that his client’s erratic actions stemmed from a mental health episode, compounded by exhaustion. McLeod’s eyes were described as “extremely bloodshot and highly dilated,” and he displayed symptoms typical of someone under the influence of stimulant narcotics, according to the police report.

Christale Spain, chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, released a statement urging McLeod to reconsider his campaign for governor, expressing concern for his well-being. She stated, “After reviewing the transcript of the dashcam footage from his recent arrest, it is clear that Mr. McLeod is navigating profound challenges.”

Despite the backlash, McLeod has announced plans to continue his gubernatorial campaign and will hold a press conference addressing the incident. He maintains that his arrest was unlawful, claiming the release of the footage was aimed at undermining his campaign.
