Boxing Legend Jeff Fenech Hospitalized with Mystery Illness
Australian boxing icon Jeff Fenech has been hospitalized for urgent medical evaluations after disclosing a prolonged high fever lasting 12 days. Doctors are closely monitoring Fenech’s heart and adjacent valves following reports of a nearly 40-degree temperature.
Fenech, a four-weight world champion, is currently undergoing tests for a mystery illness that has left him feeling severely unwell. His recent medical concerns stem from a persistent high fever and a significantly swollen wrist, which medical professionals suspect could be linked to a heart-related condition.
Having previously encountered heart issues necessitating surgery to replace an infected heart valve, Fenech expressed his distress over the current health setback. He conveyed, ‘I feel shithouse. I’m as sick as a dog. I have a mystery infection, and they’re investigating my heart and valves.’
Presently hospitalized, Fenech vividly described his symptoms, stating, ‘I hope I don’t need surgery, but I don’t know. I hope not. I also have a really bad infection in my wrist, and they think it could be heart related.’ The gravity of the situation has left the boxing legend and those close to him profoundly concerned about his condition.
In a controversial decision by the WBC in November 2022, Fenech’s 1991 draw against Ghana’s boxing legend Azumah Nelson was overturned, sparking widespread criticism. Fenech’s unwavering belief in his victory in the bout stirred up public dissent, with fans rallying behind him.
Despite the setback, Fenech continued his boxing career, engaging in further showdowns with Nelson, including a memorable trilogy in 2008. Known for his tenacity and skill in the ring, Fenech remains a prominent figure in the boxing world, contributing as a commentator on Fox Sports.
