Brian Camp Trial: Manslaughter Charges for Home Invasion Shooting
Brian Camp, a 24-year-old resident of Chesterfield, Massachusetts, is currently on trial in Hampshire County for the death of Johnathan Letendre, a 27-year-old man who broke into Camp’s home on December 27, 2022. According to testimony, Letendre attacked Camp while he was sleeping, prompting a violent confrontation that ended with Letendre being shot twice by Camp.
The prosecution has focused on the second gunshot wound, arguing that while the first shot could be considered self-defense, the second shot was not justified. This has been a central point of contention in the cross-examination of Brian Camp.
Camp has chosen to testify on his own behalf, a decision that some legal analysts, including CourtTV’s Julie Grant, believe was wise given the circumstances of the case. Grant has expressed skepticism about the prosecution, questioning whether it is just to charge Camp with manslaughter in this situation.
If convicted of manslaughter, Brian Camp faces up to 20 years in state prison or 2.5 years in the House of Correction. The trial is ongoing, with the jury set to decide Camp’s fate in the coming days.
