Brooksby and Mensik Advance in Eastbourne Quarterfinals

Eastbourne, England – Two lucky losers have made their way into the quarterfinals of the Eastbourne Open. Jenson Brooksby, who secured a spot as a lucky loser, is set to face Dan Evans on Thursday.
In another highly anticipated matchup, Jakub Mensik will challenge Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Davidovich Fokina has previously shown remarkable resilience, famously coming back from two sets down twice in a row during the Australian Open in January. He triumphed over Mensik in their last encounter in January 2025, winning 3-6, 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4, 6-2. However, Mensik leads their most recent head-to-head record at 2-1.
This time, Mensik is favored to win, having claimed the Masters 1000 title in Miami and currently ranked No. 17 in the world. He recorded a victory over Reilly Opelka in the previous round with a score of 7-5, 6-3. Meanwhile, Davidovich Fokina’s journey to the quarterfinals included wins against Chun-Hsin Tseng and James Duckworth. This tournament marks his return after a long break post-Roland Garros, following his marriage earlier this month.
The other match features Brooksby against Evans, both of whom are currently ranked outside the top 140. Brooksby, now ranked 149, reached this stage after winning against Francisco Comesana and Nuno Borges. After a two-year suspension from the sport, he is eager to prove himself on grass.
Evans, currently ranked 170, has found success in his matches against Miomir Kecmanovic and Tommy Paul to reach the quarterfinals. He was struggling at the beginning of the season but has experienced a resurgence recently.
This match marks the first time Brooksby and Evans will meet in a main tour event. Early odds have Evans slightly favored, but Brooksby’s recent form gives him confidence.
Thursday’s matches are set to start at 1:30 pm on Court 1, with Mensik and Davidovich Fokina scheduled to follow later in the day on Centre Court.
