Celebrating Raksha Bandhan On Purnima

Today, August 19, 2024, marks a special occasion for many as it is the day of श्रावण पूर्णिमा and रक्षाबंधन. The full moon day, also known as Purnima, brings joy and celebrations for siblings.

On this auspicious day, sisters tie a sacred thread known as ‘rakhi’ around their brothers’ wrists as a symbol of protection and love. It’s a day filled with rituals, sweets, and, of course, family gatherings.

The Panchang, or Hindu calendar, indicates that the full moon phase lasts until 11:55 PM today, making it a perfect time for the celebrations. Additionally, the श्रवण नक्षत्र is in effect until the morning hours.

With the sun rising at 5:52 AM and setting at 6:56 PM, the day is made even cozier with family interactions, and the tradition of giving blessings and gifts is strong.

However, it is also essential to be mindful of the inauspicious timings provided in the Panchang. The राहुकाल, or unfavorable period, occurs in the morning from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM, which should be avoided for any significant activities.

Besides rakhi, this day also heralds the beginning of the पंचक, a five-day period, which starts at 7 PM today. So, as everyone enjoys their day with sweets and ties of love, they should also keep track of these important timings in their rituals.
