Chancellor Jeremy Hunt Projected to Lose Seat as Labour Predicted to Gain Landslide Victory in General Election
According to the general election exit poll, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is facing the possibility of losing his seat as Sir Keir Starmer‘s Labour Party is forecasted to win a landslide victory with a projected 410 seats. The analysis indicated that Hunt’s Godalming and Ash constituency could be a significant gain for the Liberal Democrats, with an 81% chance of success.
Hunt, who has been the MP for South West Surrey since 2005, ran a hyperlocal campaign in the lead-up to the election and acknowledged that his chances were finely balanced on a ‘knife edge’. The exit poll also pointed out potential losses for high-profile Tory figures such as Alex Chalk, Grant Shapps, and Penny Mordaunt.
Meanwhile, the forecast suggested that Labour MPs Dan Jarvis and Stephanie Peacock in Barnsley South and Barnsley North might be at risk of being lost to Reform UK. This election night poses a considerable threat to several prominent Conservative politicians, including Education Secretary Gillian Keegan and Home Secretary James Cleverly.
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss‘ seat in South West Norfolk was labeled as a ‘possible Conservative hold’, along with those of Gavin Williamson in Stone, Great Wyrley, and Penkridge. While the outcome remains a projection at this stage, the Conservative Party HQ emphasized that the actual results need to be awaited before any definitive conclusions can be drawn.
If the exit poll findings hold true, it would signal a significant shift in power, potentially placing Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner in Downing Street. The implications of such a result are predicted to include tax hikes and national security concerns, according to statements from the Conservative Party officials.
