Charley Crockett $10 Cowboy Documentary

AUSTIN, TexasCharley Crockett, the country singer acclaimed for his unique sound, premieres his documentary “$10 Cowboy” at the Austin Film Festival on Friday, Oct. 24. The film offers an intimate look at Crockett’s life and career, chronicling his rise from humble beginnings to becoming a respected figure in the music industry.

<p;The documentary features 75 minutes of footage from his performances at iconic Texas venues such as the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas and the Broken Spoke in Austin. It includes interviews and archival clips, revealing how his son of Texas roots influenced his artistry. Directed by Patrick Heaphy, the film highlights Crockett’s connection to his home state and the struggles that shaped his music.

In a recent statement, Crockett emphasized his pride in his heritage. “I was born on the Gulf of Mexico. I don’t recognize it by any other name,” he said, responding to recent changes made by federal agencies regarding regional names. “I’m proud to have been born in the Rio Grande Valley, where the population is over 90% Latino,” he added.

Crockett’s music journey includes his latest album, also titled “Dollar A Day,” released on Aug. 8. He has gained popularity not only as a performer but also as a storyteller, drawing comparisons to legends like Willie Nelson. His hard-earned success is evident in his performances and songwriting.

Heaphy noted that the film reflects the authenticity and energy of Crockett’s music, stating, “Charley is not trying to be anyone else. He’s connected to the past while staying firmly rooted in the present. That’s rare.” The minimalist filming style strips away artificiality, allowing audiences to witness the genuine moments in Crockett’s life.

The premiere will take place at Galaxy Theatres Austin, with an encore screening at the Bullock Museum IMAX Theatre on Monday, Oct. 27. As Crockett’s journey continues, “$10 Cowboy” offers fans an unfiltered view into the life of an artist deeply connected to his Texas roots.
