Chris Pratt’s ‘Mercy’ Trailer Unveiled at New York Comic Con

NEW YORK — Chris Pratt takes on a gripping role as Detective Chris Raven in the upcoming sci-fi thriller “Mercy.” The film’s trailer premiered on October 9, 2025, at New York Comic Con, revealing a story where Raven faces a chilling trial. Accused of murdering his wife, he must prove his innocence to an advanced AI system within 90 minutes.
Set in the near future, the movie highlights a world where artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in the judicial system. Pratt’s character, who originally created a system for the accused, finds himself trapped in a scenario where he is the defendant. Rebecca Ferguson stars as Judge Maddox, the AI presiding over Raven’s trial.
During the panel discussion, Pratt explained that filming used unique techniques akin to a stage play. Each scene was shot in 60-minute long takes, creating an immersive experience. He noted, “I was literally strapped in during the shoot, which added a natural claustrophobia to the performance.”
Director Timur Bekmambetov shared insights on the film’s timely themes. He stated, “AI could be our enemy, our friend or our child. This ticking clock is metaphorical of the time we live in now.” Producer Charles Roven emphasized how the film’s relevance has grown with ongoing advancements in AI technology.
Shot in downtown Los Angeles, the crew employed bodycams and drones for filming, innovating how action is captured on screen. A thrilling truck-chase scene was also captured over six days, showcasing the film’s dynamic visual approach.
“Mercy” is set to hit theaters on January 23, 2026. With its intriguing premise and high-stakes narrative, the film is shaping up to be a standout release early next year.
