Emma Stone Bugonia Film Character Shave Head

LOS ANGELES, CA – Fans of Yorgos Lanthimos can celebrate the release of his latest film, Bugonia, with a unique opportunity on Monday, October 20. A local cinema, The Culver Theater, is offering free tickets to anyone already bald or willing to shave their head in the foyer before the film screening.

The event is a tribute to Emma Stone’s character, a pharmaceutical CEO who is kidnapped by conspiracy theorists in the film. in the movie, the character, Michelle, has her hair shaved off by her captors who mistakenly believe she is an alien plotting to destroy Earth.

“Are you bald, or willing to shave your head?” asks the event’s promotional material. Anyone with hair should arrive by 6 p.m. for a complimentary haircut before the 8 p.m. screening. The cinema emphasizes that the event is real and part of it will be filmed for promotional purposes.

Attendees will need to RSVP due to limited availability and present identification showing they are over 18, as Bugonia carries an R rating from the Motion Picture Association. Stone, who has collaborated with Lanthimos on multiple projects, recently expressed excitement about her shaved look, stating in an interview that there is ‘no better feeling in the world than a freshly bald pate.’

Her hairstyle choice was also poignant, as it reminded her of her mother, Krista, who lost her hair during breast cancer treatment. Stone noted the distinction between her voluntary act and her mother’s experience, saying, ‘She actually did something brave. I’m just shaving my head.’

Bugonia will be released for limited engagements in U.S. theaters starting October 24 and will expand to general audiences on October 31. The film is expected to draw significant attention, especially following a successful festival run, including a premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.
