Clare O’Neil Takes Charge of Housing and Homelessness

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has made a significant change in his cabinet, appointing Clare O'Neil as the new Minister for Housing and Homelessness. This decision comes as the government aims to tackle the ongoing issues surrounding housing supply, which have been overshadowed by the Greens’ outspoken spokesperson, Max Chandler-Mather.

Since taking office in May 2022, Albanese decided to move O’Neil from her previous roles in Home Affairs and Cybersecurity to this vital position. She replaces Julie Collins, who will now focus on the agriculture portfolio.

The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has expressed its support for this cabinet reshuffle. REIA President Leanne Pilkington shared her enthusiasm, stating that the organization looks forward to collaborating with O’Neil on the pressing issue of housing supply and affordability, which greatly impacts both homeowners and renters.

Pilkington also took a moment to express gratitude towards Julie Collins for her dedicated work in the housing sector. Collins worked closely with various States and Territories on important reforms, including initiatives like the National Housing Accord and the National Agreement on Social Housing and Homelessness.
