Community Fundraiser Supports 8-Year-Old Battling Leukemia

PROSPECT PARK, Pa. – A community fundraiser for 8-year-old Lincoln Hanson, who is fighting Leukemia, took place at Richman’s Ice Cream Company on Tuesday. Twenty percent of sales during a three-hour window will be donated to his family to help with medical expenses.
Lincoln was diagnosed with cancer at three years old. After going into remission, his cancer has unfortunately returned. He has completed ten days of treatment and is getting ready to start a second round, which will require hospitalization.
Desiree Hager, Lincoln’s aunt, expressed the family’s hope for his recovery. “Overwhelming. He is so loved. Him and his family. We are just hoping the best for him,” she shared, visibly emotional. “It’s been a lot of emotions. Rollercoaster.”
Desiree shared that the family is striving for any possible cure that will allow Lincoln to have more time. “He’s amazing. You would never know. He runs around, laughing and having the time of his life,” she said.
Lincoln’s cousin, Jack Hager, added, “He likes to play basketball, and he likes Roblox a lot too.” Many community members showed up to support the fundraiser, ordering ice cream and mentioning Lincoln’s name.
<p“I miss Lincoln man. It is just different without him at school,” said Shane McHugh, a classmate of Lincoln’s. Shane's mother, Melanie McHugh, reflected on the family's bond with Lincoln. “We grew really close with Lincoln and his mom and his little brother and his dad, so we just wanted to come and support them,” she said.
Zayn Francis, a first-grade friend and soccer teammate, assured Lincoln with a heartfelt message: “Everybody came for you and everybody loves you.”
Those looking to help can make donations through Lincoln’s GoFundMe page.
