Cooler Air Arrives in Metro Atlanta Ahead of Fall Weekend

ATLANTA, Georgia – Cooler and breezy weather is moving into North Georgia as a cold front brings drier air, setting the stage for a pleasant fall weekend, according to FOX 5 Meteorologist Joanne Feldman.
Feldman explained, “Over the next 24 hours, those 50s you see in the North Georgia mountains will be replaced with 40s, and the 50s will be pushed farther south.” Early morning temperatures in the region ranged from 60 to 69 degrees, with some clouds making a return after they cleared out overnight.
In Atlanta, the temperature was at 69 degrees with a dew point of 62 degrees and winds around 7 miles per hour. Feldman noted, “These winds are the key ingredient bringing in the cooler, drier air.” Wind gusts have already been recorded, with Athens experiencing gusts of up to 26 mph early Thursday.
“By sunrise, most of us will feel a breezy day that will continue through the afternoon and into tomorrow,” she added. Temperatures are not expected to reach the highs seen earlier in the week. “It’s a little deceptive,” Feldman warned. “You’d assume we could warm up close to 80, but we won’t even get close.”
By noon, cloudy skies will persist with a chance of a sprinkle where clouds are thicker, but some sunshine will appear, with highs only reaching the upper 60s and low 70s.
Looking ahead, significantly cooler air is expected by Friday morning, with widespread 50s across North Georgia. The breezy conditions will continue but clear skies will lead to another comfortable afternoon.
<p"Saturday appears particularly pleasant with a cool start and some clouds toward the east, while rain remains unlikely," Feldman said. She added, "There’s not a good chance of rain in this forecast—that's the downside. But the upside is it’s a beautiful fall weekend.”
Next week, temperatures might warm slightly again with highs returning to the 70s and low 80s under mostly sunny conditions.
