Geoff Hinsliff, the esteemed actor best known for his role as Don Brennan in the British soap opera “Coronation Street,” has passed away at the age of 87, ITV announced. Hinsliff portrayed the character on the famed television show from 1987 to 1997. He died last weekend, leaving behind a memorable legacy in the entertainment industry.

Helen Worth, a fellow cast member who plays Gail Platt on “Coronation Street,” shared her condolences on behalf of the show. “Geoff was a lovely, quiet man who will be sadly missed by us all,” she remarked. Worth also reminisced about his remarkable on-screen partnership with actress Lynne Perrie, noting that “they gave the viewers huge pleasure for many years.”

Born in Leeds, Hinsliff was a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He appeared on “Coronation Street” in roles prior to Don Brennan, first in 1963 and again in 1977, each time as different characters. He officially joined the show’s permanent cast in 1987 as a taxi driver.

During his decade on the show, Hinsliff’s character, Don Brennan, was involved in various dramatic storylines, including kidnapping and attempted murder, due to several business-related misadventures. The character met a dramatic end when he crashed his car into a viaduct.

Beyond “Coronation Street,” Hinsliff’s television career began with the show “Z-Cars.” He also made notable appearances in other popular series such as “Doctor Who,” “Brass,” and in the film “A Bridge Too Far.” His last role on television was in the series “Heartbeat” in 2003.
