Cracks in BJP-JJP Alliance Lead to Haryana Chief Minister’s Resignation
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, along with his Cabinet members, presented their resignations to Governor Bandaru Dattatreyar on March 12 amidst escalating tensions within the ruling BJP–JJP alliance in the state.
The decision to resign came after disputes over seat sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections sparked a rift between the two coalition partners.
Independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat revealed that while the alliance was teetering, a group of Independent MLAs pledged their support to the ML Khattar-led government to ensure its continuation.
Mr. Nayan Pal Rawat, an Independent MLA representing Prithla in the Haryana Legislative Assembly, and Dharampal Gonder confirmed their backing for the BJP-led administration.
Member of Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), Gopal Kanda noted the strained ties between BJP and JJP, indicating that BJP could potentially secure all ten Lok Sabha seats in the state independently.
Concurrently, there was a meeting convened by the Jannayak Janta Party in Delhi at the residence of Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, further hinting at a breakdown in the alliance.
Former BJP MP from Hisar, Brijendra Singh, joined the Congress recently after stepping down from BJP, adding another layer of complexity to the state’s political landscape ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, BJP triumphed in all ten parliamentary constituencies in Haryana, while JJP, in alliance with AAP, faced setbacks in seven out of the seats they contested.
The development comes at a crucial juncture as the state braces for a possible realignment of political alliances, with implications for the forthcoming general elections.
