Deadly Explosion at Tennessee Plant Leaves Many Missing
Hickman County, Tennessee — A tragic explosion at an explosives manufacturing plant has resulted in multiple fatalities and left 18 people unaccounted for. The incident occurred at Accurate Energetic Systems shortly before 8 a.m. Friday morning.
Recovery efforts are ongoing as over 300 emergency personnel responded to the scene throughout the day. As part of the investigation, authorities are trying to identify all individuals present when the explosion happened.
One person initially thought to be at the site was later discovered safe at home. Meanwhile, the National Response Team from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is expected to arrive Saturday to assist local officials.
Residents are advised to report any debris they find to their local sheriff’s office, which will ensure trained personnel can assess the situation safely. The focus tonight remains on supporting families affected by this catastrophic event.
Metro Nashville Police Department‘s Bomb Squad is also on the scene to help with processing the aftermath. Chief John Drake expressed condolences to those impacted.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee commented on the tragedy, stating, “We are monitoring the ongoing situation in Hickman County. We ask Tennesseans to join us in prayer for the families impacted.”
The Tennessee Department of Transportation has closed State Route 230 in both directions while investigations continue in the Bucksnort/McEwen area.
