Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming Barcelona Open due to a right arm injury, which also caused him to miss the Monte Carlo Masters. The 20-year-old tennis star, who has clinched two Grand Slam titles, had to pull out of the tournament where he was the defending champion.

Alcaraz, who had a successful run at the Barcelona Open in 2022 and 2023, managed to secure a title this year at Indian Wells. However, his injury sustained at Monte Carlo has proven to be a setback, with the player not feeling confident during his training sessions leading up to the Barcelona Open.

The announcement of Alcaraz’s withdrawal was made by Barcelona Open organizers via social media platform X, confirming that despite his efforts to recover in time, he will not be able to participate in the upcoming tournament.

In last year’s final, Alcaraz defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to claim the championship. With Alcaraz out of the competition this year, Tsitsipas, who recently emerged victorious at the Monte Carlo Masters with a dominating performance against Casper Ruud in the final, could be considered a frontrunner for the title in Barcelona.

The main draw of the Barcelona Open is set to commence on Monday, with the tournament scheduled to conclude the following Sunday. Alcaraz’s absence will undoubtedly leave a gap in the competition, shifting the focus onto other top contenders vying for the prestigious title in the upcoming matches.
