James Carville Pbs Firing Line Interview

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Long-time Democratic strategist James Carville has launched a scathing critique of his party’s handling of the 2024 election, particularly targeting the decision to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris without a primary. Carville, known for his blunt commentary, appeared on PBS‘s “Firing Line with Margaret Hoover” to voice his concerns.

Carville likened the choice to run Harris to substituting a “seventh-string quarterback” in a “Super Bowl” election. “You can’t address a problem unless you’re honest about it,” he said. “And none of this was inevitable. Never should have happened.”

He emphasized that winning elections is the ultimate goal, dismissing the importance of internal party accolades. “If you don’t win the god**mn election, you’ve done nothing! Zip, nada. You don’t count,” Carville asserted.

Since the election, Carville has been vocal about the need for Democrats to adopt a more aggressive and populist approach. He believes that forcing Republicans to vote against broadly popular initiatives can help redefine the Democratic Party. “[They think] we’ve got to be, you know, nice to people,” he said. “Screw that! Run over them.”

Carville’s comments come as the Democratic Party grapples with its future direction and strategy. His call for a more assertive stance reflects growing concerns within the party about its ability to compete effectively in future elections.
