Donald Trump Takes Lead in 2024 US Presidential Election: Early Results and Key States
As the 2024 US presidential election comes to a close, early results indicate that Donald Trump is currently leading over his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris. The election, marked by intense campaigning and high stakes, has seen Trump gain significant ground in several key states.
Trump has secured a crucial victory in the state of Carolina del Norte, one of the seven pivotal swing states. According to projections by Associated Press (AP) and ABC News, Trump won Carolina del Norte, adding 16 electoral votes to his tally, bringing his total to 227 electoral votes compared to Harris’s 165.
In addition to Carolina del Norte, Trump has also won other significant states such as Florida, Texas, Ohio, and several others. These victories have placed him ahead in the electoral vote count, with 162 delegates to Harris’s 81, although the final outcome is still pending the results from other critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada.
Kamala Harris, however, has secured victories in states like California, Washington, Oregon, New York, and Illinois, which are traditionally Democratic strongholds. These wins have helped her to stay in the race, but she still trails behind Trump in the overall electoral vote count.
The election’s outcome remains uncertain as the results from the remaining swing states are still being tallied. The winner will need to secure at least 270 electoral votes to claim the presidency.
