Duchess of Sussex Makes Acting Comeback in New Film
Pasadena, California – The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, was seen on the set of the upcoming film Close Personal Friends on November 5. This project marks her return to acting after stepping back from her career eight years ago.
Markle, 44, will portray herself in the comedy, which is directed by Jason Orley and features a star-studded cast including Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding. Sources confirm she has a small role and appeared relaxed and happy during her time on set.
“Meghan was on the set today. She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth,” an insider told PEOPLE.
This film is particularly significant as it indicates Markle’s return to her passion for acting. A studio source described the moment as “massive” for her, stating that she has received multiple offers but this one felt right.
Markle’s husband, Prince Harry, is reportedly supportive of her decision to act again. According to a source, he wants her to pursue whatever brings her joy.
The storyline follows a couple who become friends with a celebrity duo during their trip to Santa Barbara, creating a personal connection for the Sussexes, who reside in Montecito, a nearby area.
Harry and Meghan moved to California in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties in the U.K. They have two children, Archie and Lilibet.
Markle previously starred as Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits before her engagement to Harry. In their 2017 engagement interview, she discussed stepping away from acting and described it as a change, not a loss.
Despite her earlier comments about leaving acting behind, it seems Markle is excited to explore this aspect of her career once more. The release date for Close Personal Friends has not yet been announced.
