Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt Doubt ‘Jungle Cruise’ Sequel Will Happen
LOS ANGELES, CA — Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, stars of the 2021 film ‘Jungle Cruise,’ recently expressed skepticism about the possibility of a sequel. In a recent interview, both actors stated, ‘I don’t think so.’ This announcement comes four years after the original film hit theaters and garnered significant box office success.
‘Jungle Cruise’ released during the pandemic era and initially hinted at sequel plans, which were anticipated given the film’s popularity. However, Johnson’s career trajectory has shifted since then, with hits like ‘Black Adam‘ and ‘Red One‘ showing varying box office results.
Johnson noted the changes within Disney following the pandemic, saying, ‘I think when Disney came under new leadership, they just shifted coming out of COVID.’ He added, ‘COVID shifted our business in a lot of ways. I think they looked at that property and thought, ‘We did it once, not sure if we should revisit it again.”
Blunt echoed Johnson’s sentiments, stating, ‘They did not want to set sail again, and that’s fine.’
Despite the uncertainty surrounding ‘Jungle Cruise 2,’ Johnson remains a prominent figure in Disney’s plans. He will reprise his role as Maui in the live-action ‘Moana,’ which recently debuted a record-breaking trailer, and will also lend his voice to ‘Zootopia 2,’ set to release soon. However, it appears that further adventures in the world of ‘Jungle Cruise’ may not be in the cards.
Fans of ‘Jungle Cruise’ and Disney alike are left wondering if they will ever see the pair return to the theme park-inspired film franchise.
